On holiday in Umbria with children
What can you do in Umbria with children? This green heart of Italy is famous for its wonderful nature, but also for Lake Trasimeno and the Marmore Falls.
There are countless small towns and villages worth visiting with children.
Among them is Perugia, a city full of discoveries. Two places are especially fun for families: the Perugina Chocolate Museum, a must for anyone with a sweet tooth, and the POST Museum (Perugia Officina Scienza Tecnologia), where interactive exhibits and activities are designed for children and teenagers.
Another gem to explore is Orvieto, home to the famous St. Patrick’s Well, which you can visit even with little ones if you bring a backpack or baby carrier. Older children curious about history will also enjoy a tour of underground Orvieto.
Other highlights include Gubbio, known as the “city of madmen,” where you can even earn a whimsical “madman’s diploma,” and Assisi, a town of deep cultural and spiritual significance.
Nature lovers will find plenty of adventures too: trips to Lake Trasimeno – often called Umbria’s sea – or exploring the tiny villages scattered along its shores. And of course, you shouldn’t miss the Marmore Falls, one of the highest in Europe, an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
Country houses in Umbria with children
Umbria is Italy’s green lung, and the best way to experience it is by staying in a country house with children.
Many agriturismi, set in the peaceful countryside, feature educational farms where little ones can meet animals and learn about rural life. Some also have in-house restaurants serving delicious Umbrian dishes made with local ingredients.
If you are visiting in summer, choose a farmhouse in Umbria with a family pool: children will love playing and swimming, and on hot days it’s the perfect way to cool down after sightseeing in the region’s beautiful towns of art.
